Shrubs or trees; bark resinous; leaves alt., simple or compound; stipules none; fls. bi- or unisexual, regular; sepals 2-5; petals 3-7, free or rarely slightly connate, sometimes lacking; stamens mostly 5-10, rarely more; staminodia occasional; hypogynous disk usu. present; ovary superior, 1-5-celled (usually 1); cells with 1 ovule; fruit drupaceous or nutlike, seldom dehiscent.
